Domestic freight transport is defined as the carriage of goods with both the first origin and final destination within the United Kingdom. International freight transport is the carriage of goods with either an origin or destination outside the United Kingdom. As Great Britain is an island, all international freight must be handled through a port, airport or through the Channel Tunnel, while for Northern Ireland, international freight transport can also involve movements across the land border with the Republic of Ireland.

Driver Safety, First Aid and Wellbeing
HGV drivers must be aware of the danger to themselves and other members of the public when they are driving, loading and unloading their vehicles. Injuries and deaths occur for many reasons, but we will split them into two broad categories: incidents on the road and incidents at other workplaces. The overall objective of the course is to improve understanding of the safety factors in both the workplace and on the road – and to learn methods to ensure driver wellbeing, health and safety.
